Winchcombe- Ancient Saxon Town

Sudeley Castle, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, GL54 5JD

This is the only private castle in England with a queen buried in its grounds. Queen Katherine Parr lived and died in the castle. She still remains entombed in the 15th century church set in the gardens.

Once Van Marle Chauffeurs has dropped you at Sudeley Castle you will discover that the attraction has it all! A treasure trove of amazing historical artifacts, incredible display of unspoiled but, at the same time, carefully managed gardens maintained and presented with adults and children in mind. All in all it offers a fabulous destination for a full day of activities for all the family.

The Queen’s Garden – is one of ten award-winning gardens and was named thus because of the number of English Queens who visited the original site, including Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth I.

Willow Maze & Dipping Pond – This new and educational attraction also contains a wildflower meadow, a small orchard, a pond and a free play area and affords fun for all getting lost (and found) in the large willow maze – ‘Lost in the Willows’ is designed on the classic children’s book - The Wind in the Willows and consists of a number of interconnected areas allowing the children to run free & have adventures exploring and finding the burrows of Badger, Ratty and Mole.

Wooden Fort & Adventure Play Park – Children will discover that the huge wooden fort is exactly as cool as it sounds! Let your children play to their hearts content and burn off all their excess energy on a ten-piece assault course or flying down a zip wire in the adventure play park.

Although Van Marle Chauffeurs are excellent, even they can’t guaranty the weather but don’t worry, IF rain makes an appearance, just head to the castle which is steeped in a 1,000 years of history - So much can be learnt in one of the castles  extensive exhibitions.

St Mary’s Church -A visit to St Mary’s Church is not to be missed and then end up in the fantastic dressing up area (GREAT FUN FOR ALL)

Your personal Van Marle Chauffeur will be at your disposal throughout the day and happy to follow any further requirements you may have.

Restaurants & Cafes (A selection from those we recommend within a short drive of the Castle:-

The Corner Cupboard Inn83 Gloucester St, Winchcombe, Cheltenham GL54 5LX

Van Marle Chauffeurs clients have always reported back to us with very positive reports as to their experiences in this 16th-century Inn with its exposed beams and cosy atmosphere. The Patio garden is a welcoming area in the good weather and allows a family to ‘expand’ a little.  The menu here boasts very good quality fresh food with a large enough range of dishes to satisfy everyone.

Flag & Whistle Café -Toddington Station, Toddington GL54 5DT

While in the Winchcombe area and in need of light refreshment you will find it well worth asking your driver to pop in to this café in for something to eat & drink. The café is situated next to the Glos/Warks Steam (& diesel) Heritage Railway. Even if you are not a railway enthusiast the sight of a beautifully maintained steam engine is a sight to behold. There is outdoor seating where one can watch the train activity whilst eating.

(Note:- on open days you can actually buy tickets for a ride on the train).

The Plaisterers Arms- Abbey Terrace, Winchcombe, GL54 5LL

Once again, only a matter of minutes from Sudeley Castle the Plaisterers Arms is a typical 15th Century Pub boasting an excellent selection of food. There is a large garden to the rear providing a place to take in the fresh air on a summers day and somewhere for your children to play.
